NEED TO KNOW

  • November might be the most romantic month on the British royal family's annual calendar
  • Several couples announced their engagements or were married during the month
  • The future Queen Elizabeth led the way when she got married in November 1947

Love is in the heir!

If the British royal family had an ultimate month for love, November might be it — as it's the month many couples choose to get engaged or married.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip led the way in 1947, when they married on Nov. 20.

At the time, the future monarch was known as Princess Elizabeth, and she tied the knot at Westminster Abbey, where her parents, King George VI and the Queen Mother, also wed.

Twenty-six years later, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's daughter, Princess Anne, became the first of their four children to get married when she wed Captain Mark Phillips on Nov. 14, 1973.

The couple went on to welcome two children, son Peter and daughter Zara, but later divorced in 1992.

A generation later, Prince William and Kate Middleton shared the happy news that they were engaged on Nov. 16, 2010.

There was particular buzz around the announcement as Prince William was in the direct line of succession to the throne, meaning that the future king had found his queen.

In 2017, November was the month of choice for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to announce their engagement as well.

King Charles' younger son announced that he was marrying the American actress on Nov. 27 at the Sunken Gardens of Kensington Palace, one of Princess Diana's favorite places.
