A new report has emerged claiming that Tramell Tillman will be playing the new head of the Department of Damage Control (DODC) in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and this may be a big clue about Sadie Sink’s mysterious role.
The hype train has well and truly left the station for Phase 6 of the MCU, which kicked off with The Fantastic Four: First Steps earlier this year and is set to continue with the fourth Marvel Spider-Man movie in 2026.
In March, it was revealed that Stranger Things star Sadie Sink had joined the cast of Brand New Day, with Severance icon Tramell Tillman announced five months later. Their characters are yet to be officially confirmed, but that hasn’t stopped speculation.
Now, we might have more answers after sources told The Cosmic Circus that Tillman will be the new head of the DODC, and that he’ll be leading an investigation into a rogue metalhuman.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day rumor sparks theory about Sadie Sink’s character
Sources told the outlet that the metahuman will be played by Sadie Sink, who “will be under the protection of Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle,” making the Punisher a person of interest to the DODC alongside Bruce Banner and Spider-Man.

All of this has led to the theory that Sink will play Firestar. Firestar has the ability to generate and manipulate microwave radiation, and she has direct ties in the Marvel comics to the Avengers, Spider-Man, and the X-Men.
Insiders also told The Cosmic Circus that the ultimate plan is for the DODC to transform into an anti-mutant enforcement agency in the next saga post-Avengers: Secret Wars, primarily against the X-Men in their MCU transition.
So, Firestar would make a lot of sense. This is the view of many fans, who took to Reddit to discuss the latest news: “Wait, if this is true then Sadie could be potentially portraying a mutant character – if not Jean Grey then Firestar or some other well known mutant?”
Although Jean Grey was one of the first theories to emerge after Sink joined the cast, her lack of direct history with Peter Parker and the idea of introducing such a big X-Men character this early makes it seem unlikely.
Marvel ComicsSpider-Man: Brand New Day is positioned as a street-level story that sets groundwork rather than launching the X-Men mythos outright, making Firestar a more natural fit.
As one fan wrote, “I’d rather it be Firestar. With lesser known characters they can get away with more original story lines for the movies if that makes sense.”
“Firestar in a movie with Hulk makes a lot of sense since she can manipulate radiation,” said another, while a third added, “Firestar makes the most sense in terms of Spider-Man connections.”
A fourth chimed in, “Hoping Firestar somehow. I mean it’s the perfect interpolation of Amazing Friends and Ultimate Comics Spidey era. Plus, subverts the usual Spidey supporting roster.”
Others discussed the rumor Sink is playing Shathra, the Spider-Wasp to Peter Parker’s Spider-Man. However, Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman recently stated, “I have reason to believe the Shathra thing is an intentional misdirect leak from the set to confuse scoopers.”
Marvel ComicsHe later added, “She could still be Shathra – I’m just less sure now after hearing a few new things about the film. She’s the only real mystery still remaining. I know a lot about her character except her name, which is why it’s confusing.”
Even so, fans aren’t too hot on the idea. “Why would they be so secretive if she’s Shathra? That’s not a big reveal, only the nerdiest of nerds will know who Shathra is lol,” said one.
“She’s Jean, pretty sure Jeff Schneider said Sadie was the favorite to play her a year ago and he leaked RDJ as Doom.” Another wrote, “I don’t want her to be Shathra and I have a sneaking suspicion I’ll be happy when her identity is revealed.”
We’ll have to wait and see whether any of these theories turn out to be true in the coming months. Until then, check out every upcoming MCU project in development, our ranking of every Marvel movie, and what we know about Avengers: Doomsday.
