Silent Hill producer reveals plans to take series global after Silent Hill f

Silent Hill f‘s success has opened the door to new global locations as producer Motoi Okamoto confirms the team is now exploring settings around the world.

During an interview with Inverse, Okamoto revealed that the development team has been researching potential locations for future Silent Hill titles following the strong reception to Silent Hill f. Those discussions have included South Korea, parts of Central and South America, Russia, and Italy.

Okamoto explained that Silent Hill f marked a major shift for the franchise. By moving away from the series’ long-established American setting and heading to 1960s Japan, the team proved that Silent Hill’s psychological identity could translate across cultures without losing its impact.

It’s this success that has encouraged the developers to think more broadly about how future games could evolve.

“For example, in Central or South America, we could perhaps tap into the more local, shamanistic beliefs and see how that ties in,” Okamoto said.

“But we could also try to expand our horizons and look into other regions, like possibly Russia, Italy, or South Korea, because all those areas have their own unique types of belief systems. I believe that will be a gateway for us to expand our concepts further.”

Rather than simply changing locations for variety, Okamoto emphasized that any new setting would need to be deeply rooted in local culture, belief systems, and history.

Silent Hill devs aim to find regions where folklore and social anxieties align with the series’ psychological horror themes, which would make each game feel distinct while still delivering that classic SH feeling of dread and hopelessness.

While fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the Silent Hill remake and Silent Hill: Townfall, future games could provide international stories for fans to uncover.
