Mia Thornton is speaking out after she was arrested for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars' worth of furniture from a condo she was renting in Atlanta.

The former Real Housewives of Potomac cast member marked her 41st birthday with an Instagram post on “staying grounded” in the midst of “chaos.”

"Composure over chaos. Grace over noise. This birthday, I’m choosing alignment, elevation, and elegance — always," she began in her post early Tuesday, Nov. 25.

The black-and-white glamour shot was one of several in a series on her born day, also marking her first time publicly addressing her Nov. 19 arrest on the platform.

“This past week reminded me of the importance of staying grounded, especially when life feels loud. I’m stepping into another year with clarity, accountability, and gratitude. Challenges don’t define me — how I rebuild does,” she continued.

Thornton captioned a follow-up post a few hours later with another positive message, writing, “Refined. Unmoved. Unshakeable. I don’t break — I become better. Happy Birthday to me.”

“In the midst of unexpected moments, I’m remembering who I am: a mother, a creator, a woman evolving in real time. I’m choosing peace, accountability, and personal growth. Thank you to those who continue to support my journey,” the Bravo personality continued.

Thornton left RHOP after four seasons and relocated to Atlanta. She announced her departure from the franchise in April.

The Atlanta Police Department said in a Nov. 19 statement that Thornton was arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and booked into the Fulton County Jail "without incident."

Someone at the Customs and Border Protection office alerted officers for Thornton, who had “an active City of Atlanta warrant related to a larceny involving an alleged furniture theft.”

Body camera footage released by the police department showed her being escorted to a private area of the airport by officers.

As they walked, Thornton asked the officers if she could make a phone call to someone who allegedly had “the storage key” because she “just wanted to put that furniture back.”

She claimed “enough is enough,” and that there were “several emails” of her asking for the furniture to be returned.

The arresting officer informed her that she would be able to make her phone call in about 30 minutes as he placed her in a holding cell.

A police report previously viewed by PEOPLE alleged that a property management company called police on behalf of their client, who was the owner of a condo Thornton rented, after furniture was allegedly removed from the property "in the middle of the night" on Oct. 28.

Thornton's former landlord claimed "the tenants also took all of the furniture which was in the unit prior to their move in as well as the tv which was on the wall."

The property that was allegedly stolen was valued at $11,000, according to the report.

At the time, Thornton did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
