A North Carolina man is accused of spraying rubbing alcohol on a woman, the floor and couch, and then lighting the alcohol on fire, causing the woman's shirt to be set ablaze.

Patrick Tyson, 56, was arrested on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and first-degree arson. He was also arrested on misdemeanor charges of assault on a female and misdemeanor injury to personal property.

Sylva Police Department officers were called to a residence in Sylva, a town one hour west of Asheville, regarding a domestic dispute on Chipper Curve Road just after 7 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 21.

Officers determined that Tyson was involved in a verbal altercation with the victim and allegedly grabbed a bottle of rubbing alcohol and “poured it on the floor and then the couch where the female was sitting and then he lit the alcohol on fire,” according to a Sylva Police Department press release.

“He sprayed it, and it went on the carpet, the couch and on her,” Assistant Police Chief Robbie Carter tells PEOPLE.

The victim allegedly told police that Tyson said, “he would set her on fire if she didn’t get him a beer, then ignited the couch, causing both the couch and her shirt to catch fire,” per a police press release.

Carter said Tyson allegedly used a cigarette lighter to start the fire.

The victim was not injured in the attack. “Her shirt was burned but she wasn’t actually burned herself,” says Carter.

The fire caused damage to the carpet and the couch. Tyson allegedly damaged the stove during the incident.

Tyson was arrested and is being held on a $750,000 secured bond at Jackson County Jail.

He is scheduled to appear in District Court on Dec. 1.
