Brie Bird’s mom, Kendra, is remembering her daughter’s final moments before the 9-year-old influencer died from stage 4 cancer.

Brie — who documented her cancer journey for over 1 million followers on Instagram — died on Thursday, Dec. 11, after living with a recurring form of neuroblastoma cancer for five years. In an Instagram post uploaded on Dec. 18, Kendra recalled her last conversations with her daughter the week prior.

“One week ago from this very moment, we were having regular conversations,” she wrote. “We talked about what finishing touches you were going to make on your Christmas list, why Annie was an orphan (since we watched it the night before), and sleeping in your room on Christmas Eve. An hour later, you had fallen asleep, and we never heard your voice again.”

Continued Kendra: “I laid by your side, as dad sat next to your bed. We both held you, as your body transitioned, whispering all the things we’ve told you for 9 years. ‘You’re amazing! You are so loved. You have changed the world. It’s such a privilege to be your mom.’ ”

“Brielle, our home will never feel the same. We will continue to dance in your honor, we will always serve those around us, and we will tell the world about the goodness of God,” she concluded her caption. “Though I don’t agree with or understand His plan right now, we do know that you are no longer in a broken body, and finally able to run; run straight to Jesus. 💔”

Brie was first diagnosed with cancer in 2020, when doctors found an 8-centimeter tumor in Brie's abdomen in addition to the cancer that had spread elsewhere in her back. After about two years, the Birds celebrated that Brie was cancer-free — but her neuroblastoma returned in January 2024.

She entered hospice in July, and later decided that she wanted to live out the rest of her life at her family’s home.

Over the summer, her inspiring story caught the attention of the cast of Wicked, who surprised her with a care package and a private screening of Wicked: For Good several months before the movie-musical’s wide release.

In November, on the day of the Wicked sequel’s international release, Brie and her family celebrated the premiere date from their home, as Kendra wrote on Instagram that its November release date had felt "so far away” when they had their private screening in September.

“November 21st seemed impossible back in September, but here we are, defying gravity!” she shared, adding that, because of her daughter’s health status, they wouldn’t be able to see the movie again in theaters.
