A teenage girl fell to her death from the Chapin School in New York City.

On Wednesday, Dec. 17, police responded to the 911 call at the school, located at 100 East End Avenue, a representative for the New York Police Department confirms to PEOPLE.

"Upon arrival, officers observed a 14-year-old female at the above location with injuries indicative of falling from an elevated position. EMS responded and transported the female to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in critical condition, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased," a representative for the NYPD told PEOPLE in a statement.

"The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. There are no arrests at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending proper family notification," the statement concluded.

The Chapin School, founded in 1901 by Maria Chapin Bowen, serves girls in kindergarten through 12th grade, according to their official website. There are currently 830 students enrolled from across the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Long Island, N.Y., Westchester County, N.Y., Connecticut, and New Jersey, per the website.

Tuition and fees for the elite school cost $68,250, with an estimated $2,000 laptop fee and $100 in Parents' Association Dues, according to the school.

The 14-year-old student's tragic death comes just over a month after a teenage boy similarly fell to his death at a different elite N.Y.C. private school.

On Nov. 13 at Regis High School, an all-boys school, police “observed a 16-year-old male with injuries indicative of falling from an elevated position," authorities said.

The boy was transported to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, per the NYPD.
