NEED TO KNOW

  • A bridesmaid cut contact with the bride before her wedding because she wouldn't allow her sister to attend the ceremony in her place
  • The back-and-forth RSVP drama was described by the bride on Reddit as "wild"
  • Many Reddit users commented that the bridesmaid lacked "basic social norms or etiquette"

A bridesmaid ghosted the bride right before her wedding over a back-and-forth RSVP dispute.

In a post on Reddit's "Wedding Shaming" forum, the bride explained that "a simple guest swap" spiraled into drama that resulted in one of her bridesmaids "cutting contact" with her. The bridesmaid "doesn’t talk to" the bride anymore because she wouldn't allow her sister to attend the intimate wedding in her place.

"The audacity is wild," the bride wrote.

Originally, the bridesmaid was given one plus-one for her husband, but because he couldn't attend the bride gave permission for her to bring her sister along instead, even though she's "not close" with her. A few weeks later, the two RSVPs turned into three because the bridesmaid's husband's schedule opened up.

"My husband and I hate drama and since a few guests had already RSVP’d no, we let it slide," the bride said. "In hindsight, we should have shut it down."

About a month before the wedding, the bridesmaid dropped out due to pregnancy-related concerns. The bride supported her friend's decision that she and her husband sit the ceremony out, but she didn't like her idea of having her sister still attend to "represent" them.

"I had to tell her straight up that her sister was never on the original guest list," the bride said. "I don’t know her that well, and she won't know anyone, and I don’t feel comfortable having her there by herself."

After the bride changed the trio's RSVPs to "no," the bridesmaid never spoke to her again.

"I see their absence as a win in the long run," one person wrote in the comments, with the bride responding, "Honestly, for real."

A few people questioned why the bridesmaid's sister would want to attend the wedding as a stand-in when she's "not close" with the couple.

"That would be so strange," someone said. "If I were the sister, I wouldn't want to come. It would be the most awkward of weddings to be on your own and know no one. Weird!"
